Discover Austria's Digital Skills Initiative

The Digital Skills Initiative is our response to the urgent need to strengthen digital skills throughout Austria - a pioneering project launched with the aim of bringing Austria to the forefront of digital skills in Europe.

Stronger together

The Digital Skills Initiative for Austria is a joint initiative of the Federal Chancellery (BKA), the Federal Ministry of Finance (BMF) as initiator, the Federal Ministry of Labor and Economic Affairs (BMAW), the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (BMBWF) and the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport (BMKÖS). The collaboration among several ministries brings together extensive expertise and allows a wide range of topics. This approach effectively addresses the demand for digital qualifications across the workplace, business, education, and administration sectors.

By signing the Digital Austria Pact, all federal states are reinforcing their collective commitment to promoting digital skills and ensuring equal opportunities.

A strategy with Foresight

More than 500 experts from 80 institutions have contributed to the development of the "Digital Skills Austria Strategy," which includes eight key initiatives - from establishing an Austrian Framework of Reference for Digital Competence to providing customized educational opportunities for all age groups. This comprehensive strategy aims to enhance the digital literacy and skills of our citizens in a holistic manner.

Digital Everywhere: Free Offer Without Hurdles

We bring digital skills directly to you with 4,500 “Digital Everywhere” workshops. Whether it’s learning to navigate digital official channels or grasping cybersecurity and AI concepts, we make digital topics accessible and understandable for all.

On-Site for the Digital Future: The Vital Role of Digital Interpreters in Communities

As a Digital Interpreter, you serve as the connection between your community and the “Digital Everywhere” program, actively engaging in the following tasks: 

• Choosing the workshop topics (booking information will be provided in due course) 
• Scheduling appointments with the training provider 
• Coordinating the venue with the respective educational institution 
• Promoting the offerings within the community (informational materials will be supplied) 
• Organizing registrations for community members

Austrian Framework of Reference for Digital Competence

With the Austrian Framework of Reference for Digital Competence, we are establishing a benchmark for digital skills. This ensures consistent and high-quality digital skills training for  the Austrian population. In this way, we are making digital expertise in the school and university sector, for employers, employees and providers transparent and we promote individual digital development.

European Digital Skills Awards 2024

This year's European Digital Skills Awards, presented by the European Commission, recognizes exceptional contributions from projects and organizations dedicated to promote digital skills education.

Whether ministries of EU member states, associations or companies, all finalist and winning projects present innovative approaches to promote digital skills and inclusion.

We are delighted that the Austrian entry “Digital Skills for All” from the Digital Skills Office is among the finalists in the category “Inclusion in the Digital World” category is among the finalists.

As a national agency, the office of @OeAD-GmbH - Agency for Education and Internationalization pursues the goal of making everyone digitally fit.

The workshop offer “Digital Everywhere” is the follow-up project to the EDSA submission in 2024 - and offers free training on digitalisation topics throughout Austria for beginners.
