The goals in the Council of Ministers’ briefing on She goes AI show how the Federal Government, as part of the Digital Skills Initiative, is strengthening visibility, building skills, and improving the framework conditions to ensure that women can equally participate in shaping AI.

Closing the gender gap in AI – actively seizing opportunities

Women are significantly underrepresented in AI — in Austria and worldwide.

The research paper “Artificial Intelligence and Gender Differences in Austria,” commissioned by She goes AI and conducted by L&R Social Research and IHS, shows that inequalities are not rooted in women’s individual behavior. They arise and and are reinforced by structural conditions — stereotypes, gender-biased educational and career paths, and male-dominated work environments — that make it difficult for women to access AI skills, AI training, and AI professions.

With She goes AI the federal government, as part of the Digital Skills Initiative (DKO), is taking targeted action in areas where visibility, skills, and structural conditions must be strengthened to ensure women’s equal participation in shaping artificial intelligence.
